Prep Your Home for AC Installation

person-consulting-a-checklist

One question people often ask is how long AC replacement appointments take. And the answer is that it varies! Not very helpful, we know. But we do have something more helpful to offer: a checklist for how to get your home all ready for your installation appointment. When you prep your home for AC installation, the process will be faster and simpler, and you’ll be enjoying your new system sooner.

The AC Installation Timeline

In the most complicated situations, such as when you’ve never had central air before and need ductwork installed, or if your ducts are badly damaged and must be replaced, you might need a preparatory appointment before the actual AC system can be installed. Otherwise, it will all be done in a single appointment, which might take as many as eight hours or as few as four.

The AC Installation Process

Upon arrival, your installation techs will assess your home and your old system, and let you know their exact plan. The old units will be disconnected and removed from their positions, both indoors and out, and hauled away. The new units will be put in place, connected, and turned on. The installers will let the system run for a bit to make sure everything works perfectly.

The AC Installation Is Complete

While the system runs, your installation techs can give you your new owner’s manual. They’ll make sure you’re comfortable using your new system. And they’ll answer any questions you have. This is a great time to ask about what maintenance is required, how to change the air filter, and how to tell if your system is having a problem and needs repair. Then you can simply wave goodbye to the techs—and to your old system.

Preparing Your Home

Much of the time that installation techs spend at your home can be occupied with menial tasks that mostly have to do with making room to move around and to work. If you do that for them ahead of time, the installation process can be accomplished much more quickly! Here’s what to do.

Clear a path from the driveway to the outdoor unit. Rake, trim plants, move birdbaths, or whatever you need to do to clear the area around the outdoor unit. Then clear a path from the driveway to the best door for carrying equipment in and out of your home, and from that door to the indoor unit. Move furniture, put away breakables, and make sure there’s no clutter on the floor.

With plenty of room to move the old units out and the new units in, and plenty of space to move around as they work on both units, your techs will be able to get directly to the job at hand. There’s one more thing you can do: put your pets in a separate, closed room. We certainly don’t want to step on their curious paws or let them escape out the door!

Once you’ve gotten those things done, you’ll be all ready for an easy, streamlined air conditioning replacement in Lubbock, TX.
